WIP - Completed! Belle Vue Park

Hello again! 👋 In my last blog post I was about half way through this painting and now I think I’m done 😁 Love that feeling! I still had a couple of largish areas to address at the last point so I’ll pick up from there today. I had just started looking at the reflections on the rooves of the conservatories. Next I laid a very light grey across the frames of the windows as the entire front of the building was in slight shade and started to work down the smaller windows at the top of the side windows....

WIP Belle Vue Park pt 2

Hello all 😊 I’m about half way through the actual painting of the buildings at Belle Vue Park so I thought it was a good point for an update 😊 In my last post I shared my drawing and scaling up process which took us up to the point where I was ready to start painting. I always work from the background to the foreground so my first action was to add a blue wash over the sky. I wanted a bright blue to match a Welsh spring day so I chose cerulean blue which I often use. I like...

WIP Belle Vue Park

Hello 👋😁 On my last blog post I shared the news that I would be working on some paintings for a new project: the cover for a gift calendar filled with the fabulous products of traders at the Cotyledon Markets. I was excited to get started and had made a study to help me see the proportions and details. Beginnings of a new project!

Hello 👋 and I hope everyone has had a lovely holiday weekend. I have some very exciting news to share about a new project that I’m working on in collaboration with lots of other local traders! Jan who runs some of the local markets that I attend in Belle Vue Park and Tredegar House has had a wonderful idea: to create an advent calendar style gift box, using products from local traders and small businesses to fill the smaller gift drawers! Isn’t that a fabulous idea? Jan has kindly asked me to make some watercolour studies of the buildings in Belle...

New commission!

I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in to this huge A3 watercolour! Just prepared it on a board and set up the easel and it’s intimidating but exciting too! I’ll be working on a smaller landscape as well at the same time. I often do this as you can spend a long time waiting for paint to dry before you can move on so having another one or two paintings on the go fills in those gaps nicely. I’ll post progression shots so watch this space or sign up to my newsletter for updates as well as a code...
